Kano’s Incredible Journey Back Home:
When dogs go missing, their families can only hope they’ll one day find their way back. For Kano, a sweet and loving pup also known as Skillet during his time in a shelter, that hope turned into reality after a remarkable turn of events.
Kano was under the care of DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia for five months, waiting patiently for a family to claim him. Despite his friendly nature, no one came forward, and due to space limitations, he was transferred to LifeLine Animal Project’s adoption center in Atlanta. That move, however, set the stage for his reunion.
LifeLine later announced the joyful update on Facebook: “Kano, formerly known as Skillet to his shelter family, has found his way home! He found the best outcome; being reunited with his family!” The reunion was sparked when Kano’s “grandmother”—the mother of his original owner—came across his photo on the shelter’s website. Following a powerful instinct, she began searching for the dog her family had once loved.
She shared that her son had raised Kano from a puppy in the Blue Ridge Mountains, calling him the most loving dog. When her son enlisted in the Army, difficult family circumstances forced her to rehome Kano, but not long after, he went missing. “I just had an intuitive sense that I needed to look for him,” she explained. That intuition led her to Kano’s adoption profile, and the moment she called him by his real name, he whipped his head around in recognition. Volunteers were moved to tears watching him instantly reconnect with his family.

Kano’s grandmother expressed both joy and guilt, admitting she regretted the separation but hoped Kano felt her love: “I knew in my soul he needed me; it’s like he was calling me somehow. I tell him every day I’m sorry I was doing the best I could do at the time and I love him so much.”
Today, Kano is back where he belongs. His grandmother has a house with a fenced yard, ensuring he has space to run and play. While his owner hasn’t been able to reunite with him in person due to deployment, they connect through FaceTime, filling the calls with happiness and love.

Kano’s journey is proof that sometimes life takes unexpected paths, but love and determination can always guide us home. His reunion was more than luck—it was destiny.
