12-Year-Old Girl Brings Drenched, Injured Puppy Home in the Rain
Quick-thinking act of kindness saves a tiny dog’s life
On a rainy afternoon, Mayane Rodrigues glanced out her window at the perfect moment to witness something unforgettable. Spotting a scene that touched her heart, she quickly grabbed her phone and began recording—capturing a rescue that would soon warm hearts around the world.
Walking home from school, a young girl stopped abruptly on the soggy sidewalk. Without hesitation, she set her umbrella on the ground and shrugged off her coat. At her feet sat a tiny, drenched puppy, shivering in the downpour. The girl crouched down, scooped the little dog into her arms, and continued her wet walk home, cradling her precious cargo.
“It all happened so quickly. It was very emotional,” Rodrigues recalled. “I sent the video to a friend who shared it to a neighborhood group, and that’s how I learned who the angel was.” The rescuer turned out to be 12-year-old Cibely, who couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the pup alone in the cold rain. Cars sped past, and to her, the danger was clear—what if the puppy wandered into the street?
When Cibely arrived home, her mother, Rejane Stiegelmair, was startled to see her daughter soaked and with blood on her shirt. Fearing Cibely had been hurt, she rushed over, only to learn the puppy was the one injured. Fortunately, the wounds were minor and could be treated at home.
While no one knew exactly how the puppy ended up on the street alone, one thing was certain—she had just found her forever family. Cibely named her Pretinha and promised to give her a lifetime of love. “Cibely has a very good heart. She feels very sorry for stray dogs. If she could bring them all home, she would,” her proud mother shared.
The family searched for an original owner, but no one came forward. Pretinha now spends her days safe, warm, and adored. For Cibely, the decision to stop in the rain was instinctive. For Pretinha, it was life-changing.
What may have seemed like a simple act—a girl picking up a puppy—was in fact the moment that saved a life. And thanks to one compassionate 12-year-old, a once-lonely street pup now has the security of a forever home.
