Neglected Puppies Transform in Just One Week Thanks to Foster Care

Two tiny puppies arrived trembling and silent at a Georgia foster home, but within just a week their lives took a remarkable turn. Laurel Lingenfelter, an animal rescuer and foster based in Savannah, documented their journey on TikTok under the account @mythologicaldogs, and the video quickly captured hearts. The clip, which has already been viewed more than 31,000 times, follows Tom and Jerry, two fragile rescues who made an emotional transformation from fear to trust.

When they first arrived, Tom and Jerry were terrified of human contact. “They’d hide from us, shake when we held them, and had no idea what safety felt like,” Laurel explained in the video’s on-screen text. It took immense patience and kindness for the foster team to earn their trust. Through quiet companionship, gentle reassurance, and plenty of treats, the puppies began to feel safe. Within days, they went from cowering in fear to tentatively approaching their caregivers for comfort.

Both pups had endured severe neglect before their rescue. At just four pounds each, they were dangerously underweight, infested with worms, and completely bald from demodectic mange — a painful skin condition caused by mites that often strikes weakened puppies. Their littermates and mother were also rescued, but Tom and Jerry’s condition required around-the-clock care. Laurel provided medicated baths, deworming treatments, and most importantly, unconditional love. The results were astonishing: within a week, their coats began to grow back, their appetites improved, and their bodies filled out as their weight doubled.

A young and sweet pit bull was found behind a warehouse in south Memphis with hundreds of bite marks and other severe injuries. Liam, as the rescuers named him, had been used as bait for dog fighting and his abusers are still at large.

The transformation extended beyond their health. Once silent and withdrawn, Tom and Jerry began to show their personalities. They sought out cuddles, wagged their tails when approached, and played together with newfound energy. “They quickly grew hair and started to love us back,” Laurel shared. “They’d look for us and wanted to be with us.”

The story has an even happier ending: both puppies have now been adopted into forever homes. Jerry is living with a boat captain in south Florida, spending his days exploring the water. Tom was adopted by a dog dad in Miami, where he enjoys beach life and endless affection. What began as a heartbreaking picture of two neglected, frightened puppies has turned into a story of survival and hope.

Tom and Jerry’s journey is a reminder of how powerful love, patience, and proper care can be. In just one week, fear gave way to trust, despair to joy — proof that even the smallest acts of kindness can completely change a life.
