For dogs, time apart from their favorite human feels like forever, and Indus, a Husky/Malamute/Timber Wolf mix, proved just how strong that bond can be. His dad, Devin Ekstom, was away for ten long weeks completing basic training with the military. While Devin knew he would be coming home for the holidays, Indus had no idea a life-changing surprise was waiting for him.

At Devin’s parents’ home in Northwood, New Hampshire, his wife Morgan captured the reunion on video. At first, Indus spotted what he thought was a stranger walking up the driveway and immediately started barking in defense. But as Devin got closer, Indus caught his scent—and everything changed in an instant.

The moment recognition hit, Indus transformed from cautious to overjoyed. He pounced on his dad, smothering him with kisses, circling with his tail wagging uncontrollably. What seemed like only weeks to humans had felt like a lifetime to Indus, who had deeply missed his best friend.
